Biological Health

The Willow Creek Reclamation Committee began characterization of biological health in 1999.  Investigations have included fish sampling in September 1999 and benthic macroinvertebrate sampling in September 1999, May 2000, and May 2001.  Invertebrate samples in 2001 were analyzed for metals content to provide an indication of potential exposure to wildlife.  An aquatic habitat assessment was also conducted in the fall of 1999 following Rapid Bioassessment Protocol and Stream Reach Inventory/Channel Stability Index methods.  A discussion of these efforts and the results is provided in the Report on Characterization of Fish and Aquatic Macroinvertebrates in Willow Creek.  Please refer to the WCRC's Sampling and Analysis Plan for Site Reclamation and Surface Water, Groundwater, Biological, and Waste Rock Sampling (rev. 5/03) for detailed information on methodology.
