Additions or Corrections: Les Dobson corrected Administrative Order
of Consent, should be Administrative Order on Consent. JB moved to approve the
minutes as corrected. Chuck Barnes seconded. Motion carried.
Historical Characterization: (Eric Twitty) Presented his findings on
the History of the Holy Moses mine area and the East Willow area. This research
was done last summer. This summer he will be doing research on the Alpha-Corsair
and the other areas surrounding that. Loretta Panetta from Abandon Mine Lands
Corporation is trying to get grant money to apply for nomination of these areas
to the National Registery.
WCRC Letter Heads (Denise U-A) Denise presented several different options
for letterheads. All were very appealing. The committee chose a favorite sketch
and typeface. Denise will work with the ideas and present a new option next
month.
Re-Vegetation: (Steve Russell) NRCS met today on the floodplain. They
will do an intensive grazing and spread seed. This should create some good grass.
Roto-tilling will happen soon to mix the lime with the soil. Tree planting will
be on June 12. Volunteers will be appreciated. Letters to Wason Ranch concerning
the Re-Vegetation project needs to be sent.
Meandering Stream- design was discovered in the district office. This
design is a lot shallower than originally thought to account for slope and sediment
removal. Two options were presented: 2½ year event or a 25 year event
plan. Down by the Fish Hatchery they will keep the channel split to accommodate
the wishes of the property owners. Motion by Chuck Barnes to give the TAC the
stream channel design and let them make a recommendation to the committee on
how to proceed. Scott Randall seconded. Mr. Burkett asked that NRCS be sure
that Willow Creek does not end up removed from Wason Ranch. The Engineer that
did the design will be gone the next two monthly meetings. It might be necessary
to meet on a day other than a Willow Creek meeting day. Motion carried.
Schedule High Flow Water Sampling Event- This event will take place on
the 22 and 23 of May.
Rio Grande Water Conservation Board & Colorado Water Cons. B. (Zeke)
Zeke gave a report to this group and received $7,000 from them. They asked if
from time to time the WCRC would come down and give a report of our activities.
The Colorado Water Conservation Board approved a grant for $15,000. This money
will be applied to design work on the flume. Steve Russell says that The NRCS
may have some possibilities for us. The committee gave the direction to allow
NRCS to proceed with the engineers and thank them for the offer. The city will
send NRCS a letter saying that they have permission to be on the right-a-ways.
HECLA- Gary Nelson will be moving on to another job. We don't know yet
who his replacement will be. Zeke is in contact with that office.
East Willow Report: (Glen) See Glen's summary in his report.
Miscellaneous Zeke discussed a little of the details for the NPDS Permit.
"National Pollution discharge and elimination system".
Stephen Wardell asked if the committee could use calcium carbonate. JB says
we could use it to amend soil for Ph.
